Pokemon Yellow and Fireflies

Hello everyone, yeah it's been a while. Sorry if you went into withdrawal from not reading a new blog post, but I kind of doubt that happened because my readership is not that extensive. Probably because I haven't really told anyone about my blog. But still, I think I'm doing better than my friend's blog that I linked some time in the past. I just thought of a bunch of things I should probably talk about now, so this random part at the top may be a bit more substantial this week since I have to explain to you all the reasons why I failed at writing a blog post until now.

First of all, I want to apologize for the fact that my last blog post had very little content (my second point was basically just empty space), I did mean to actually write something for that, but I realized I wasn't done and I was on my way out the door to go camping for the weekend (last weekend), so I just sort of posted what I had. I thought it was clever at the time, but Doing Nothing is more awesome than I gave it credit for in that post. I may revisit it in the future or update my last post if I'm bored sometime.

Second, I have not had very much sleep recently. Pretty much since going to the midnight screening of Harry Potter the day before my last post. I actually had an interview at 9:30 am the same day as the midnight screening (I got the job), so that was interesting. Then I went camping as mentioned above, and the ground is not comfortable to sleep on, also it thunderstormed one night, and our tent leaked, so that was also uncomfortable. But don' let my negative thunderstorming experience make you think thunderstorms aren't awesome anymore. They're still cool. Then I had a dentist appointment first thing in the morning the day I got back from camping. Then I started my job...for one day (no I didn't get fired). By the way, there's a lot less time to update your blog when you're not unemployed. Then I left for Indianapolis at 6:30 the next morning, and had to wake up early for a robotics competition the next two days. And I'm working again this week. Maybe I can sleep this weekend. Oh but I'm leaving for Orlando tomorrow. Sigh. Maybe next summer I can have a nap.

Third, I went to Indianapolis for a robotics competition. You probably knew that because I just told you. It was the Indiana Robotics Invitiational. My brother's high school robotics team went, and I'm cool, so I went too. Indiana on the other hand was not cool. In fact, it was unbearably hot. There and everywhere actually; including the swimming pool at the Ramada in Lansing. But aside from that the robotics tournament was awesome (maybe I can tell you how awesome some other time).

Fourthly, if that's a word (I've never had this many points to make), I had relatives over sometime in the middle of all those things I already said. They were Chinese. My family is Chinese. I have a Chinese family; well half Chinese at least. I didn't get to see them too much because of all my escapades, but I did go on a tour of a dairy farm with them. We saw some cows.

Anyway, that's a brief excerpt from my eventual autobiography. Now onto more pressing matters, such as the awesomeness of Pokemon Yellow and Fireflies, both of which are inspired by road tripping to and from Indianapolis this past weekend. Remember, becoming awesome is not a spectator sport, so get out there and start being awesome.

Pokemon Yellow

Level of Awesomeness: Ash-ome

What Is It: It is a Gameboy game. If you have not played a Pokemon game, then you are just the worst kind of person. The object of the game is to become the best Pokemon trainer in the history of time. What sets Pokemon Yellow apart from the other Pokemon games, besides the fact I am currently playing it, is that Pikachu follows you around on screen, so you look like this:

Notice the awesomeness

Rather than this:

So lonely. Not awesome.
Also, in Pokemon Yellow your rival (err...what was his name again?) is a huge asshole because the first thing he does is steal the Pokemon that Professor Oak was going to give you, so you don't feel bad about beating him up on countless occasions throughout the game.

Why Is It Awesome: In Pokemon Yellow, when you go to the Pokemon Centre, Pikachu jumps up on the counter to get healed, and stands on the counter afterward. This creates a break in your dialogue with Nurse Joy, and drastically reduces the number of times you accidentally reheal your Pokemon. Sooo convenient, and so awesome.

Fireflies

Level of Awesomeness: 1,000 Hugs From 10,000 Lightning Bugs

What Is It:

NOT THIS!

This.

I know it's hard to see, but it's a video of real fireflies (extremely hard to find on YouTube due to the number of people in the entertainment industry who think Fireflies or Fireflies at Night are good song names, or who name their television program Firefly). Last weekend, on my road trip from here to Indianapolis and back, I encountered fireflies for the first time. It was a magical moment that took place while walking through an abandoned construction site from the local Bennigans to our derelict Ramada on the rarely visited outskirts of Lansing, Michigan. Luckily there was no one around (shocking, right?!) to watch us running around aimlessly in a parking lot with our arms outstretched trying to catch flying bugs that were only visible for fractions of a second and then faded away into  blackness and disappeared.

Why Is It Awesome: Because they light up. WTF is that? That is so cool! I can't do that :( Still awesome though.
